Nanotechnology

Nanotechnology is a new emerging technology. By using this technology, it is possible to obtain materials with superior qualities. The amount of money spent during production is small. Moreover, a large amount of profit is accepted due to sales made to countries that cannot produce using this technology. In other words, it is possible to obtain products with high added value thanks to nanotechnology. One of the many application areas of nanotechnology is textile. Turkey is one of the countries that invest in nanotechnology. So, nano-textile in Turkey is developing. Textile is among the sectors that Turkey gains the most in exports. Nanotechnology contributes to the revival of the Turkish textile industry.

Some companies in Turkey have produced and marketed textile products using nanotechnology. In addition to these, they made bright rope and fabrics. In addition, the range of nano-textile in Turkey is growing day by day. Therefore, investments in the textile field are shifting to this field.

Nanotechnology applications in textile materials can be examined under two headings.

1- To produce new textile materials in nano sizes with different functions: These products; nanofibers, nanotubes and nanocomposites.

2- Improving the existing functions and performances of the textile material with the help of nanotechnology: This can be achieved in two ways:

  • Nanoparticles, nanocomposites etc. that give different properties to the fibre, yarn or fabric surface.
  •  To obtain new/functional surface layers by playing with the positions of atoms and molecules and coating with advanced technologies (plasma, sol-gel, etc.).

Nano-Textile

Nanotechnology applications in textile can be called nano-textiles. The definition of nano-textile refers to all textile surfaces obtained as a result of nanotechnology applications. The building blocks of all-natural and synthetic textile products are molecules. These molecules line up to form fibres. Fibres are also used for yarn production. The permanent way to improve the use performance of the fabric is possible with the development of the threads that make up the fabric at the molecular level. The low loss of physical and mechanical properties such as attitude, strength, air permeability, and wetting are among the reasons for nano-textile applications. The other is less chemical use and low energy costs.

Fibres from the basis of textile materials. Fibres; it divided into two main groups as natural and synthetic. Yarns and nonwoven fabrics are obtained from the fibres. It is possible to improve the existing functions and performances of the textile material with the help of nanotechnology. In addition, thanks to nanotechnology, new textile materials with different parts are producing in nano sizes.

Products of Nano-Textile in Turkey

Nanotechnology also provides features such as waterproof, stain-proof, anti-wrinkle, antimicrobial, UV protection, flame retardancy in textile and ready-made clothing products. The use of nano-textile in Turkey has also become widespread. Some products change colour with various external effects such as heat, light, pressure, chemicals. In addition, these products may have the feature of detecting changes in body functions such as pulse, temperature, blood pressure.

In the next 25 years, developments are expected to be caused by nanotechnology in the textile sector. Military clothing will be the pioneer of these developments. These uniforms will have the ability to change colour to support camouflage. With phase change materials, they can perform tightening and even artificial muscle development to serve as support in case of fracture. The fibres in this fabric will contract or expand depending on ambient temperature or air circulation. TAF and companies of nano-textile in Turkey are also working on this issue.

Firms of Nano-Textile in Turkey

Yeşim Textile is a company of the nano-textile in Turkey. It has invested in the R&D studies of nano-technological fabrics since the beginning of 2000. It produces nanotechnology home textile. Yeşim is one of the first smart fabric manufacturers in Turkey of non-flammable, water-repellent, iron-free, non-sweating smart fabrics, which have been the most crucial trend in the textile industry in recent years. The company also has technical textile fabrics developed under the name “Hybrid”, combining many features.

Nano carpet is an example of a nano-textile in Turkey. It cleans itself with an innovative and innovative approach while preserving the values brought from the past, is the invention of Atlas Halı. Its innovative and innovative business approach has the nano-carpet manufacturer turned into a dynamic brand suitable for today’s changes in the industry and lifestyles.

Atlas Nano Carpet does not stain, thanks easily to its liquid repellency. Even if there is a trace after the intervention to the stain, it cleans itself over time using sunlight or ambient lighting. Thanks to this feature, it cleans itself constantly even if there is no stain on your carpet. Thus, it remains as it was on the first day for years. It does not contain invisible dirt such as cigarette smoke, soot and footprints.
