Turkey is the 6th largest energy market in Europe thanks to its 85.2 GW installed power and is accepted to be among the world’s largest growing renewable energy markets in recent years thanks to the increasing numbers of energy companies in Turkey.
When Turkey’s 2023 vision is examined, it is seen that the target is to raise the total installed power capacity to 120 GW and increase the share of renewable energy to %30. Since there is a strong potential in the energy sector in Turkey, there are several important energy companies in Turkey.

1-TÜRKİYE PETROL RAFİNERİLERİ A.Ş. – TUPRAS
Turkey Petroleum Refineries or in short TÜPRAŞ was established in 1983 as a mother company which combined the four state-owned oil refineries in Batman, İzmir, İzmit and Kırıkkale. The public company became private in 2006, of which the stocks transferred to KOÇ Holding. It is one of the biggest and most prestigious companies in the energy field in Turkey.
2-ENERJİ PİYASALARI İŞLETME A.Ş.
Energy Exchange Istanbul (EPİAŞ/EXIST) was officially established after the registration process was completed on 18 March 2015, subject to the provisions of the Electricity Market Law dated 14.03.2013 and numbered 6446. The Turkish Commercial Code numbered 6102, and on 01 September 2015, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority It started its operations by obtaining the market operation license from (EMRA).
3-BOTAŞ BORU HATLARI İLE PETROL TAŞIMA A.Ş.
BOTAS, the entire share capital of 1.83 billion lira is registered in the name of Turkey Wealth Fund Inc. General Directorate of BOTAŞ is located in Ankara Bilkent, and the company is among the largest organizations in Turkey with about 20 Billion annual turnovers.
4-PETROL OFİSİ A.Ş.
Petrol Ofisi started its operations as a nine-staffed public institution in Ankara in 1941 in order to purchase and import petroleum and petroleum products for the needs of public and private sector organizations and end consumers and to create and market stocks to cover the entire country. Which became a joint-stock company structure in 1983 and privatized in 2000, Petrol Ofisi is one of Turkey’s leading fuel, the LPG distribution and lubricants company.
5-OPET PETROLCÜLÜK A.Ş.
OPET was established in 1982 in Mersin as an Öztürkler Limited Company operating in the fields of mineral oil and fuel, and by growing in a short time, it has become the dealership of many mineral oil and fuel brands. Rapidly growing, OPET today operates in retail sales, commercial and industrial fuels, mineral oils, storage and international trade.
6-ENERJİSA ENERJİ A.Ş.
Enerjisa Enerji A.Ş. carries out its two primary business lines, which are electricity distribution and sales, with a focus on operational excellence. It reaches 9.6 million customers in 14 provinces and provides distribution services to more than 21 million users. Enerjisa Enerji was opened to the public on February 8, 2018. It has been traded in Borsa Istanbul since then.
7-EÜAŞ ELEKTRİK ÜRETİM A.Ş.
EUAŞ, Turkey Electricity Generation-Transmission Corporation (TEAŞ) General Directorate, with the decision of the Council of Ministers, Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. (EGC), Turkey Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS), and Turkey Electricity Trading and Contracting Co. (TETAŞ), it was decided to be organized as three separate joint-stock companies. The capital of Elektrik Üretim A.Ş. is 14 billion TL.
8-AYGAZ A.Ş.
Aygaz, Koç Group’s first and largest company operating in the LPG sector, was established in 1961. In Turkey, LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) supply, storage, filling, distribution, sales and after-sales services as well as domestic and foreign markets for gas appliances and accessories manufactures devices for comfort. Today, Aygaz is the first and only publicly-traded company operating in the LPG sector.
9-PETKİM PETROKİMYA HOLDİNG A.Ş.
Petkim started its first investment activities in Izmit, Yarımca Rubber and later Ethylene, Polyethylene, Chlorine Alkali, VCM and PVC plants. Today, Petkim is one of the most important raw material producers in the Turkish industry with a range of more than 50 petrochemical products. The privatization of Turkey’s most transparent company between 5 and situated on 30.05.2008 completed 10% of the public shares that their companies are available. SOCAR TURKEY purchased this share for 168 million 500 thousand dollars.
10-TÜRKİYE ELEKTRİK İLETİM A.Ş.
Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEİAŞ) was established to operate within the framework of Decree-Law No. 233 of June 8 1984, and its amendments, as well as the Decree No. 2001/2026, issued based on the Electricity Market Law No. 4628. Istanbul Gaz Dağıtım Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi (İGDAŞ) was established on December 25 1986, with the participation of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, IETT and some affiliates. Established to save Istanbul from polluted air, İGDAŞ started to meet the fuel need of the city with natural gas, which is the most economical and suitable energy source for the environment and human health.
13-ZORLU ENERJİ ELEKTRİK ÜRETİM A.Ş.
Zorlu Energy, founded in 1993 to operate in different areas of the energy sector, is an energy company that provides integrated services on a global scale. Electricity trade, electricity distribution, solar panel sales and installation, natural gas trade and distribution, construction and operation-maintenance of power plants has a service mix that is integrated with activities in different fields of the energy sector, such as a network of electric vehicle charging stations.
14-TP PETROL DAĞITIM A.Ş.
Turkey Petroleum gas stations founded in 1963. Going to a restructuring in 2006 to expand its commercial activities and station network in the fuel oil field, Shell established Shell & Turcas Petrol A.Ş., in which it holds 70% shares, in partnership with Turcas Petrol, one of the well-established companies in the sector.
